Exploration of Tibetan Medicine | Kunde Institute

You are invited to come explore Tibetan Medicine with us on Saturday, March 11, 2023. It will be a rare opportunity to experience and explore the art and the science of healing through Tibetan Medicine (Sowa Rigpa), which has been practiced for thousands of years as a holistic medicine. 
This is a unique space to hear about Tibetan Medicine in the context of social entrepreneurship in Tibet and the US from various Tibetan Medicine practitioners, researchers and educators.

Keynote Speaker
Samtso Kyi, hailing from Tibet, is currently studying at UC Davis about honeybees and their ecosystem. She will share her work on cultivating Tibetan Medicine with Shangri-La Gyalthang Academy in Tibet.
She is a social entrepreneur who has dedicated her life to organizing local communities across eastern Tibet. In years of strengthening Tibetan communities,
Samtso Kyi has gained vital experience in the challenges of rural, nomadic, and marginalized urban areas.
She is the Founder & CEO of Shangri-La Gyalthang Culture Conservation and Heritage Academy (Shangri-La Gyalthang Academy), a locally registered charity in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Dechen, Kham. She comes from a semi-nomadic Tibetan family in Labrang, Amdo. 

Goals of the Program

  • To introduce projects within Tibet that focus on health, healing and wellness 

  • To share the art and science of healing to Tibetan and Himalayan youth as well as anyone interested in learning about this topic

  • To explore how Tibetan Medicine/Sowa Rigpa has played a major role in the prevention of modern physical and mental diseases including the prevention and treatment of COVID-19

  • To connect and bond with the natural environment through Tibetan Medicine

  • To encourage research and create educational opportunities in local communities and universities

  • To promote an equilibrium with the mind and body through personalized care regimen inspired by Tibetan Medicine 

  • To learn practical tips of self-care & self-healing as well as stress & pain management skills for our day to day life.

  • 11:15 am - Welcome Speech by Dr. Yangdron Kalzang

  • 11:30 pm - Mind-Setting Meditation Session by Dr. & Geshe Lobsang Tsering

  • 12:00 pm - Health & Social Entrepreneurship inside Tibet by Samtso Kyi (Keynote Speaker)

  • 12:30 pm -  Social Services & Entrepreneurship through Tibetan Medicine by Yangdron Kalzang 

  • 1:00 pm - Break &  Refreshments 

  • 1:30 pm - Teaching Tibetan Medicine as a Holistic Medicine at SFSU by Professor Daubenmier

  • 2:00 pm -  Constitution Quiz  + Q & A by Dr. Partsang, Dr. Kalzang,  & Prof. Daubenmeir
