Art For Tibet - Students For Free Tibet

  • Now Here Gallery 40 Wooster Street New York, NY, 10013 United States (map)

Join us for the 10th annual Art for Tibet benefit auction and exhibition.

World-renowned artist and activist Ai Weiwei will join this year’s exhibit for the first time and serve on the event’s Honorary Committee, alongside returning members Shepard Fairey, NYC hip-hop artist & Beastie Boys collaborator Cey Adams, and Tibetan director Yangzom Brauen. All proceeds from the sales will benefit Students for a Free Tibet’s critical work in support of the Tibetan freedom movement.

Art for Tibet will showcase more than 50 art works from a diverse international pool of established and emerging artists, including several outstanding contemporary Tibetan artists. Highlighted artworks include Ai Weiwei’s Hanger (2012), in which the artist painstakingly reproduced a hanger from his 2011 stint in a Beijing prison, an original work by Shepard Fairey entitled “Art for Tibet,” a painting from master Tibetan painter Pema Rinzin, and original works by Swoon, Cey Adams, Maya Hayuk, Tsherin Sherpa, Judith Eisler, Curtis Kulig, Boy Kong, Al Diaz, Tim Okamura, Jon Burgerman, Renate Alle, and more.

Art for Tibet’s online auction commences on October 19th (see www.artfortibet.org) in partnership with BidSquare and will close at the live event at NowHere Gallery on November 3rd, which will include a drinks reception and a performance by contemporary Tibetan performing artist Yesh.

Founded in 2009, Art for Tibet raises critical funds for Students for a Free Tibet, a grassroots network of youth and activists campaigning for Tibetans’ fundamental right to political freedom and justice. Through education, grassroots organizing, and direct action, SFT empowers youth as leaders in the worldwide movement for social and climate justice. Art for Tibet is SFT’s most important annual fundraiser, which enables the organization to continue its fight for the Tibetan people’s fundamental human rights and freedom.
